PROJECT DALE  "irish pub basement"

WINTER 2020 / SPRING 2021

OVERVIEW

THIS PROJECT WAS A GUT REMODEL OF A BASEMENT FOR A FAMILY TO ENJOY MOVIES, ENTERTAINING, AND ARCADE GAMES. THE INSPIRATION ORIGINATED WITH MCSORLEY'S OLD ALE HOUSE IN NEW YORK MEETS THE CHICAGO ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION MEETS FAMILY LIVING. WE KEPT WITH THE INSPIRATION BUT TONED IT DOWN A BIT SINCE THE SPACE IS ON THE SMALLER SIDE.

THE WALL OF AN ADJACENT UTILITY ROOM CAME DOWN TO OPEN UP THE USABLE SPACE AND IS NOW HOME TO SEVERAL ARCADE STYLE GAMES. THE HOCKEY GOAL WAS REPLACED BY A CUSTOM BAR AND SEATING AREA AND BECAME THE FOCAL POINT AT THE BACK OF THE ROOM. THE EXISTING FIREBOX CREATED CONSTRAINTS FOR THE LOCATION OF THE NEW GAS FIREPLACE. TO CREATE SYMMETRY AND VISUALLY ENLARGE THE TINY GAS INSERT, WE DESIGNED BUILT IN SHELVING ON THE LEFT SIDE AND SURROUNDED THE INSERT WITH BEAUTIFUL HAND MADE TILE BY A LOCAL COMPANY. THE CUSTOM METAL SURROUND WAS WELDED BY ANOTHER LOCAL ARTISAN.

TWID PROVIDED SPACE PLANNING, ELEVATIONS, CABINETRY AND BUILT-IN DESIGNS, MILLWORK DESIGN, FINISHES AND FURNISHINGS.
